@Ralph Jones: Thanks! It is always a positive verdict at universities in The Netherlands. They only let you do your defense after they have decided your thesis is good enough. It is more of a tradition, though of course it can get pretty nervous anyway when there's at least eight people with phd's of which at least a few are professors as well as the dean of the university sitting across from the candidate asking hard questions.
